This is a really brief biography since I don't really know a lot about him....anyways, here's a summary: Stevie grew up idolizing his brother Jimmie Vaughan, who also played guitar. Steve was always trying to keep up with Jimmie, and Jimmie hated it. A few years down the road, Jimmie was in a band and playing at local clubs. Steve would sneak out to see him whenever he could. When Jimmie's parents noticed Jimmie coming home late and drunk and/or stoned, they wanted him to stop. He wouldn't listen, so he was kicked out. Steve's parents didn't want him to turn out like his brother, so they discouraged his playing the guitar. He did it anyway. For Steve, playing the guitar wasn't a hobby, it was his life. It made him forget the teasing he endured from other kids, made him forget school, his parents. Everything. In the next few months he tried to get a band together. It lasted for awhile. Then, for the next couple of years, he drifted in and out of bands, and played pretty much every place in Dallas. He was bored with this. He wanted more. Dallas didn't excite him anymore, so he moved to Austin with his roadie and friend, Cutter. In Austin, Steve had several run ins with his brother and old band mates. Here in Austin, Steve would play for money and drugs. He was living the dream. One day a guy from hollywood came up to him. He was making a record. He wanted Steve and some other guys to come play their stuff on it. They went to Los Angeles, thinking they had made it. They spent the whole time either playing or doing drugs. They day came when they showed the record to the label. They hated it. Steve's dreams were crushed, and he went back to Austin. He spent most of his days just wandering from place to place sitting in with whoever would let him. He still saw his brother, who still despised him. But through all these troubles, he still had his guitar. He was determined to become a legend. He had no idea of what he was getting into.
There will be more on this page when I get around to it. I am getting most of my information from this book, Stevie Ray Vaughan: Caught in the Crossfire. Anyone who wantes to know everything about SRV should get this book.
